The Australian government said on Saturday that it will not proceed with evacuation operations from Syria, despite limited movements by some families seeking to return.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported that 4 Australian women, along with 9 of their children and grandchildren, left Roj camp in North and East Syria and were transferred to Damascus with the assistance of local forces, in preparation for arranging their return by air.

A government spokesperson said the authorities are closely monitoring the situation, stressing that any potential return will be subject to strict legal procedures, and emphasizing that the safety of citizens and national interests remain a top priority.

He also noted that individuals linked to these cases may face prosecution if their involvement in illegal activities is proven.
