As-Suwayda Military Council: We will be part of national army of new decentralized Syrian state

As-Suwayda Military Council, which consists of several armed factions in the province, announced in a statement that it "will present its national project based on the principle of organizing cooperation between the armed forces in the local community, which contributed to protecting the land and honor, noting that the youth of Jabal al-Arab were able to "not get involved in the Syrian massacre by covering the refusal of about forty thousand young men to join the military and reserve service."

The statement added that the council "formed a military nucleus from the cadres of defected and retired military personnel who participated in the As-Suwayda uprising since its first launch, and calls on all those who wish from the military forces to get involved in its national project based on obtaining the right for every right holder and committing to the national duty."

The statement stressed that "the council works in coordination with the revolutionary political forces, civil society, and the spiritual body, represented by His Eminence Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, the spiritual leader of the Unitarian sect Druze, in order to achieve the requirements of protecting society and national and regional security, and protecting the southern borders from smuggling gangs, weapons and drugs, and the infiltration of extremist terrorist organizations through them, from its farthest point in the west to the Tanf area in the east.

It also works to create a safe environment for the stability of the population, encourage investment and protect internal and external transportation lines, according to the council's statement.

The council stressed that it "will be part of the national army of the new Syrian state, the state of modernity, equal citizenship and human rights, the secular democratic decentralized state, the state of justice and regional and international peace."

After the fall of the former regime on December 8, 2024, local factions in As-Suwayda prevented a military convoy affiliated with the Damascus authority from entering the province on January 1, and the factions of As-Suwayda and Daraa refused to dissolve themselves, and confirmed that they would be part of the national army of the new Syrian state.
