Armed clashes, security tensions in al-Raml al-Janoubi neighborhood, Latakia

Tensions escalated in the al-Raml al-Janoubi neighborhood of Latakia city following several separate altercations between different groups throughout the day.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the clashes involved gunfire, the throwing of grenades, and the use of various weapons after the disputes erupted between the groups in the neighborhood.

The SOHR reported that several people were injured in the clashes, while initial information indicated that one person was killed after succumbing to his injuries.

General Security patrols were deployed across the neighborhood in an attempt to contain the tensions and disperse the clashes, while an arrest campaign targeting a number of those involved was also carried out. Security forces remain on high alert in the area.

The developments come amid ongoing security chaos and the widespread proliferation of uncontrolled weapons, factors that continue to fuel armed confrontations and the spread of armed activity across several residential neighborhoods.
