A large crowd of teachers and employees of Sulaymaniyah gathered in Southern Kurdistan, with the aim of heading to “Dabashan” to organize a demonstration in protest against the non-payment of their salaries, but the security forces prevented the start of the demonstration and arrested a number of teachers.

One of the teachers participating in the demonstration said: “Today, the employees and teachers of Sulaymaniyah Governorate tried to organize a demonstration to protest the non-disbursement of their salaries and to express their rejection of the accounting system. We were scheduled to go to “Dabashan,” but the security forces prevented us and arrested a number of fellow teachers as well.”

He added, according to what he told Roj news agency, that the only reason for arresting the teachers was their participation in the demonstration.

In a related context, Kurdish language teachers gathered in Kirkuk to demand that the caretaker government of Southern Kurdistan pay their salaries. They also demanded that their staff be transferred to the federal government.

Various regions in Southern Kurdistan are witnessing protests and demonstrations, in addition to a number of government department employees suspending official work in protest against their poor living conditions as a result of the caretaker government of Southern Kurdistan not paying their salaries for months.

In addition, Nermin Maarouf, a member of the Finance Committee, revealed the content of her meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani and the date of sending the salaries of the security forces in the region from Baghdad.

Nermin Maarouf said, “The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc met yesterday with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, who said that the salaries of the security forces will be sent within the next few days.”

She added, "Al-Sudani said that an agreement had been reached between the Iraqi Government and the Hewler Government to work with the biometric codes of security forces employees instead of the information of other employees of the Iraqi Ministry of Finance."

Regarding March salaries, she indicated that the Prime Minister said that there was an agreement on the issue of salary disbursement, but the Federal Court decided to send the government in cash until settlement was completed.
