American website: Trump held calls with Barzani, Talabani

The American website Axios reported that US President Donald Trump conducted phone calls with both Kurdistan Democratic Party President Masoud Barzani and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan President Bafel Talabani.

Axios added that “the purpose of these calls was to discuss the potential joint war between the United States and Israel against Iran and the future steps in this conflict.”

The website cited three informed sources as saying that “these calls took place just one day after the start of the intensive US bombing campaign on Iran (on Saturday).”

One source described the content of the conversations as “sensitive,” declining to provide further details.

Responding to a question about these contacts, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said: “President Trump has been in contact with many allies and partners in the region over the past few days.”

According to the report, “the Kurds possess thousands of trained soldiers along the Iraqi-Iranian border and control strategic areas that could play a major role if the war escalates.”

Axios wrote: “Iraqi Kurds also have deep ties with the Kurdish minority inside Iran, which is considered a point of strength for the United States and Israel.”
