Al-Sharaa: We do not intend to intervene militarily in Lebanon

Syrian Interim Government President Ahmad Al-Sharaa said Damascus is working to reach a security agreement with Israel with the participation of several countries, expressing hope that such an agreement could pave the way for a comprehensive peace without compromising Syria's claim to the occupied Golan Heights.

In an interview with a Gulf-based media outlet, Al-Sharaa said Syria is seeking to avoid confrontation with Israel and sees no benefit in engaging in military conflict, adding that the success of the ongoing security arrangements could open the door to a broader political settlement.

Turning to Lebanon, Al-Sharaa stressed that Damascus has no intention of intervening militarily in the country, noting that Syria is in discussions with the Lebanese government on ways to help the country overcome its current crisis and restore stability.

He emphasized that resolving Lebanon's crisis requires more than a security-based approach, arguing that it demands a comprehensive solution addressing all dimensions of the conflict. He also warned that any outbreak of instability in Lebanon would have direct repercussions for Syria.

Al-Sharaa further announced Damascus' support for placing all weapons and decisions on war and peace exclusively under the authority of the Lebanese state, expressing concern over the potential expansion of the regional conflict and the broader consequences such an escalation could have across the region.
