In line with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria’s steps to improve administrative work and strengthen community roles, the Al-Shaddadi City Council held an expanded meeting that brought together council administrators, representatives of institutions, and commune members to reactivate the communes in accordance with the new decision issued by the Democratic Autonomous Administration on June 28.

The meeting, held at the city council headquarters, focused on the importance of activating the role of communes in serving neighborhoods and organizing residents’ daily affairs to ensure effective delivery of services and implementation of plans and decisions on the ground in a way that serves the public interest.

Attendees emphasized the need to restructure the committees within the communes and to involve new members from institutions and the community in order to enhance transparency and improve administrative and service performance.

In this context, city council administrator Hassan Al-Mukhallaf explained that activating the committees would positively impact service improvement. He highlighted the importance of establishing commune centers across different sectors in addition to the original communes, aiming to facilitate service delivery and broaden the base of community participation.

Al-Mukhallaf stressed the importance of teamwork and integrated coordination among different sectors to ensure the implementation of planned projects with high quality and within the appropriate timeframe.

For his part, Democratic Union Party (PYD) member and official in the Commune Organization Committee, Youssef Al-Daher, spoke about the importance of restructuring and effectively organizing the communes as the cornerstone of community governance. He noted their role in addressing residents’ daily needs and implementing projects in cooperation with various institutions.

Al-Daher added that communes play a central role in enhancing popular participation and ensuring fair representation of neighborhood residents, which contributes to strengthening social bonds and achieving sustainable development based on interaction between the people and administrative bodies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the commune of Al-Mashouh village was nominated as the commune center for the western sector of Al-Shaddadi. Mohammed Al-Khalif was elected as the co-chair of this center, with the election of the female co-chair to follow later in accordance with the adopted system.
