al-Hol Camp IDPs feel great satisfaction after launching campaign  

The third phase of the “Humanitarian and Security” operation launched by the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria in al-Hol Camp on January 27, to combat ISIS cells, was welcomed among the Iraqi residents of the camp, especially in the “Safe Zone” section, who were exposed to the crimes of ISIS cells inside. The camp since ISIS families arrived there in 2019.

In 2021, the Internal Security Forces, in cooperation with al-Hol Camp A dministration, established a special section for those targeted by ISIS mercenary cells in al-Hol Camp, known to its residents as the “Safe Zone,” after the many assassinations carried out by ISIS cells within the camp against anyone who rejects its ideas.

This "Safe Zone", consisting of more than 20 tents, is located on the southern side of the camp, and is inhabited by 60 people, including women, men and children, under high security protection by Internal Security Forces.

 “Systematic assassinations of those who reject their ideology.”

From that “Safe Zone,” the Iraqi Khader Youssef, who arrived in the camp in 2017, from the Mosul region, and was subjected to 7 assassination attempts, as he put it, pointed out the importance of continuing the operation and the timing of its launch.

He said: "Here in the safe zone, our situation is fairly safe, but we are more comfortable after the Internal Security Forces operation against these cells in the camp because we were tortured a lot before it."

He recalled what he was exposed to from the cells: “They threatened me more than once, and after that I was subjected to 7 assassinations by ISIS mercenaries, but I was hiding away from them, and on one occasion ISIS mercenaries attacked us, about 17 young men and 20 women, in the reception room, and two people were killed as a result.” “If it had not been for the intervention of the Internal Security Forces, we would all have been killed.”

The Iraqi Abdul Qadir Jassim, who was also subjected to several assassination attempts, one of which he was injured, after his arrival to al-Hol Camp in 2017, from Anbar Governorate, agrees about the importance of these operations for the camp’s residents, attributing this to their extent to the crimes of ISIS cells against anyone who rejects their ideas.

He expressed his satisfaction after hearing about the resumption of the "Humanitarian and Security" operation and the start of its third phase, and pointed out the necessity of implementing this type of operation periodically, to establish security and end the spread of ISIS ideas by these cells.

He pointed out that the threat of ISIS began when his family entered the camp in 2019, and that it committed murders and floggings in various ways, but with the launch of security operations in 2021, it reduced the number of these crimes.

The forces participating in the “Humanitarian and Security” operation have so far been able, according to the latest information received, to arrest 34 wanted persons and confiscate quantities of weapons and ammunition.

The third phase of the “Humanitarian and Security” operation was launched by the Internal Security Forces, with the support of the Syrian Democratic Forces, and led by the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), on January 27. The forces confirmed in their statement that the operation was “to pursue ISIS terrorist cells, dry up their hotbeds, and arrest wanted persons, including the perpetrators of the terrorists' attacks and collaborators, as well as those involved in marketing extremist ideas, especially among children.”
