Afrin displaced people demand an end to occupation to return to their city

The displaced people of Afrin currently residing in the city of Jal Agha in al-Jazira region called for the expulsion of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, the "National Army," from their city so they can return to their homes. During their conversation with our agency, the mother of the martyr Aresh Afrin, Arifa Ahmed Hamo, who was displaced from the city of Janders in occupied Afrin due to the Turkish occupation's attacks, confirmed that her displacement journey was filled with tragedies.

The journey of displacement and suffering

Arifa Ahmed Hamo explained that she spent eight years in al-Shahba region due to its proximity to her city, Afrin, before being displaced again to al-Jazira region because of the harsh conditions.

The second displacement journey was described as the hardest, as the displaced people were subjected to assaults by Turkish army mercenaries, and witnessed horrific scenes such as the killing and beheading of citizens in Tal Rifaat, in addition to the severe cold during the journey.

Resistance and demands

Arifa confirmed that their resistance continues and they will not return to Afrin until the mercenaries who committed massacres against them are expelled. She also pointed out that some families who tried to return to Afrin were assassinated or attacked.

International forces and human rights organizations demanded intervention to remove the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries from occupied Afrin, affirming their right to return to their homes and properties just as other displaced people have returned within and outside Syria.

For his part, the displaced Mustafa Ali from the village of Simalka, affiliated with the city of Mobata in occupied Afrin, called on human rights organizations and international powers to listen to the demands of the people of Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad and to take action to remove the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries from their cities.

He affirmed, saying: "It is also our right to return to our homes," and emphasized that they will continue the resistance wherever they are in order to return to Afrin, which is their city and history.

The number of displaced people

Thousands of residents of the Afrin and al-Shahba regions were forcibly displaced to the Raqqa, Tabqa, Jazira, and Euphrates regions due to the continuous attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries. Approximately 97 families were accommodated in the city of Jal Agha in the Jazira region, where they were distributed among the villages and the shelter center at Ibn Zaydun School. Additionally, 5 families were accommodated in the Rasafa neighborhood, 6 families in the town of Abara, and 6 others in the village of Sikarka Draro.

Support for the displaced

According to Ali Hussein Rajab, a member of the Social Affairs Committee in the Jal Agha Council, the committee continues to monitor the situation of the displaced and provide them with all necessary health and life services, with the Kurdish Red Crescent working in coordination with the Health Committee to provide them with the necessary treatment.

The fuel committee also recorded the names of all the displaced individuals and allocated 300 liters of diesel to each family, in addition to distributing heating appliances such as stoves and heaters to all families.

Ali Hussein Rajab concluded his speech by affirming their readiness to provide everything necessary to support the displaced people from Afrin and Shahba.
