About 2 million people are without electricity in NE Syria

The Turkish occupation state, through its warplanes and drones, continues to target the infrastructure in the NE Syria, as its air and ground bombardment during the past 48 hours affected 56 sites in the region, resulting in the injury of 6 citizens, and heavy losses inflicted on vital service installations.

According to the Energy office of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, the vital Al-Swaydia facility responsible for producing the gas that feeds electricity generation turbines for Jazera Canton, as well as for extracting domestic gas, has gone out of service, as well as the exit of 7 electricity conversion stations in different cities and districts of Jazera and Euphrates Cantons.

The co-chair of the energy office in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Ziyad Rustom, confirmed in a statement to ANHA agency that the power stations in “Terbespiye, Qamishlo, Amuda, Al-Darbasiya, Ain Issa, Kobani and Tal Tamr” have been targeted.

The stations being out of service caused the deprivation of the city of Derik and more than 70% of the city of Qamishlo, and the districts of Jazera Canton (Çil Agha, Tal Koçer, Girke Legê, Tirbespiye, Tal Hamis, Amuda, Al-Darbasiya and Tal Tamr), in addition to the Euphrates Canton and Ain Issa district, from the electricity.

This led to it being cut off from about 2 million people living in city and district centers and more than 800 villages affiliated with it.

This is not the first time that the Turkish occupation army has targeted infrastructure, including electricity stations in NE Syria, as during November 2022 and October 2023, electricity transmission stations and oil and gas stations were subjected to brutal attacks by aircraft, causing citizens to be deprived of basic services.
