AANES aid awaits transitional government's response

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) is awaiting a response from the institutions of the Syrian transitional government regarding the dispatch of its aid convoys to Sweida. This comes amid revelations by the Co-chair of the Social Affairs and Labor Board in the AANES, pointing to bureaucratic complications from the government side.

Amid the worsening humanitarian crisis and deteriorating living conditions in Sweida, and in response to urgent appeals from the local population, the AANES swiftly announced its readiness to send humanitarian and medical aid through its Social Affairs and Labor Board.

Speaking on the latest developments, Farouq Al-Mashi, the Co-chair of the Social Affairs and Labor Board in NE Syria, confirmed that preparations have been completed and that the aid is ready and stored in warehouses, awaiting clearance to head toward Sweida.

Al-Mashi revealed the obstacles hindering the dispatch of the aid, noting the absence of a secure corridor to Sweida and unspecified complications from the Syrian transitional government. He said that, so far, no official response has been received from the relevant authorities.

However, Al-Mashi affirmed that the AANES, through its Department of Foreign Relations and Executive Council, continues its efforts to secure a safe passage and ensure the safe delivery of aid.

He highlighted the substantial volume of aid that the AANES could provide to the people of Sweida, stating at the end of his interview with ANHA agency: "We are committed, the warehouses are full of aid collected through widespread grassroots efforts, and work is ongoing around the clock to support our people in Sweida."

It is worth noting that the Syrian transitional government has previously blocked aid deliveries from North and East Syria to other Syrian regions. On April 12 of this year, it prevented a humanitarian convoy, sent by residents of the region to the Syrian coast, from passing through. The convoy included around 14,000 food and hygiene baskets, in addition to several tons of flour.
