80% of Hasakah generators shut down; efforts underway to restore operations

Large parts of Hasakah city were plunged into darkness on Tuesday due to the shutdown of a large number of generators because of a lack of fuel needed for their operation. This increased the suffering of residents who rely on generators as a main source of electricity, especially amid rising daytime temperatures.

Commenting on the situation, the head of the Generators Committee in the People's Municipality of Hasakah, Mohammad Khamis, told ANHA agency: "The percentage of generators that did not operate yesterday reached 80% within Hasakah city due to the unavailability of subsidized diesel fuel allocated for ampere-based private generators."

He added: "In recent days, there has been a decline in generator operations across the city, with operating hours being reduced because of fuel shortages. Some generator owners managed to secure limited quantities of fuel, which allowed them to run their generators on Tuesday."

Mohammad Khamis further stressed: "Support for generators through subsidized diesel fuel is still ongoing at its regular price, and there is coordination between the Generators Committee and the Fuel Directorate to secure the supplies. In the coming days, fuel availability is expected to return to previous levels, allowing operations to resume for eight hours daily and enabling generators to return to their normal schedule."

He also noted that new fuel shipments are expected to arrive today and will be distributed to generator owners on Thursday without any changes in prices.
