SDC calls on international community to put an end Turkish occupation attacks

The Syrian Democratic Council issued a statement coinciding with the anniversary of the occupation of Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi, in which it called on all the Russian Federation and the international coalition countries to assume their responsibilities and protect the region from threats.

The text of the statement read:

“The Syrian Democratic Council recalls and condemns the continued Turkish occupation of the Ras al-Ain (Serê Kaniyê) and Tal Abyad (Girê Spi) regions of the Hasakah and Raqqa governorates, as today, October 9, marks the fourth anniversary of the start of the Turkish invasion and occupation of them and the displacement of nearly two hundred thousand people. Civilians from their areas and commit crimes and violations that amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The Council also condemns in the strongest terms the continued hostile attacks by the terrorist state and the Turkish occupation using drones, warplanes, and artillery shelling on villages, towns, cities, energy installations, and vital facilities in various regions of NE, Syria.

These Turkish attacks and hostilities, which reached their peak from October 4, 2023 until today, targeted more than 200 sites and facilities, causing great material losses and dozens of civilian lives, including children and women, and military and security personnel specialized in fighting terrorism and combating drugs. These... The attacks put oil, gas, electricity and vital facilities out of service, and had a direct catastrophic impact on the lives of more than 5 million residents of NE, Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Council renews its call on the international community to condemn the Turkish hostilities, and to intervene urgently to stop the attacks and ensure the protection of the population, infrastructure, and vital and service facilities, and calls on the Arab countries in particular to take a strong and strict stance towards Turkish violations and crimes, as they have always considered that Syria’s security is an integral part of their regional security.

The Council calls on the Russian Federation to carry out its responsibilities towards the agreements to reduce escalation and stop the Turkish hostile attacks. It also specifically calls on the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, led by the United States of America, the United Kingdom and France, to assume their responsibilities, and not limit their obligations to protecting their military personnel present in the region, but rather the necessity of taking action. More effective steps in maintaining the reduction of escalation and protecting the region from all surrounding threats, as this goal cannot be achieved at a time when infrastructure and vital and service facilities are being targeted. Preserving the capabilities, capabilities and energies of the region’s population is a basic condition for continuing and focusing on fighting terrorist threats, and this It is of utmost importance that the Global Coalition Forces must take firm and concrete measures in the face of the Turkish threats, and assume the responsibility of quickly and urgently rehabilitating the damaged facilities in order to prevent the situation from deteriorating and destabilizing security and stability in NE, Syria.

While the Syrian Democratic Council condoles the families and relatives of the martyrs, especially the martyrs of the Internal Security and Anti-Narcotics Academy who were receiving training by the Global Coalition, and wishes a speedy recovery for the wounded and injured, it affirms the right of the people of NE, Syria to live in peace and stability without external threats, and reaffirms “Its commitment to searching for peaceful and comprehensive solutions to the Syrian crisis and calls on all concerned parties to cooperate in order to achieve this goal and achieve a political transition in Syria.”
