Yesterday evening, Sunday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan concluded the work of its fifth conference, by electing a leadership council that includes 60 members, including only 9 women, which contradicts previous expectations that the percentage of women would reach 25 percent of the total members of the council.

The spokeswoman for the Fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Talar Latif, said in a press conference earlier that women nominated themselves for the party’s three councils, and according to the percentage of women in representation, 25 percent of the members of the leadership council must be women.

However, only 9 women were elected, or 15 percent.
