Hasaka clashes: 20 killed, wounded including officers

The city of Hasaka witnessed sporadic clashes in the late hours of the evening of September 14, during an attempt by Damascus government forces to storm the house of the leader of the National Defense who booby-trapped the house and its surroundings. The Damascus government forces were forced to give him a deadline to surrender himself.

In the late hours of the evening of Wednesday, September 20, tension returned within the security square, as a result of which violent clashes broke out between government forces and their National Defense forces, specifically in the streets surrounding “Hamo’s” house near the “Baath Party Branch” and “Tishreen” Park, and snipers were deployed on the roofs of buildings and government departments overlooking the house and its surroundings.

The clashes continued for two consecutive days, during which Damascus government forces targeted Hamo's house with heavy weapons. According to information, Hamo was injured in those clashes, and after that he entered into negotiations with the security forces of the Damascus government, due to his possession of documents and files confirming the involvement of Damascus government officials in drug and corruption files.

The clashes that broke out caused an exodus of citizens from the security square towards the Autonomous Administration areas, and in turn, the Internal Security Forces took them to the safe areas, in addition to preventing chaos from reaching the rest of the areas by tightening the points separating them from the areas controlled by the Damascus government.

As the clashes continued between the government forces and their National Defense forces, dozens of random shells and bullets fell on the safe neighborhoods of Al-Nasra, Al-Salihiyah, Al-Omran, Al-Nashwa, and Ghuwayran Sharqi. As a result, the two-year-old child, Zidane Muhammad, lost his life, in addition to 13 civilians being injured. It also caused material damage to civilian property.

On Friday, clashes intensified between the forces of the Damascus government and the National Defense Forces in the vicinity of the house of the so-called Abdul Qadir Hamo, and the forces of the Damascus government announced that they had entered his house and killed him after end of negotiations.

While our agency's correspondents were tracking the events taking place inside the security square, there was a contradiction in information about the killing of Abdul Qader Hamo. The person who was killed and promoted in the Damascus government media as Hamo was no other than someone who was with him inside the house.

During the clashes more than 20 people from both sides were killed and injured, including officers from the Damascus government forces.
