On September 2, the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces revealed that various external forces intervened after the launch of the “Security Enforcement” operation in Deir ez-Zor, and wanted to exploit the operation as an opportunity to achieve their plots.

It revealed that one of the parties that wanted to destabilize security were "mercenary militants linked to some of the regime's security services."

ANHA agency obtained an interview with a mercenary recruited by the Security Services of the Damascus government in Deir ez-Zor, called “Ahmed Hamad Awad Al-Shaloukh,” from the Albu Jamil clan - the Al-Akidat tribe, born in 1989.

Al-Shaloukh was working employee in one Damascus government institutions, after ISIS entered the Deir ez-Zor region, he worked in motorcycle maintenance. After the region was liberated from ISIS by the Syrian Democratic Forces, a person named Abu Ali, an element in the Political Security Branch affiliated with the Damascus government in 2019, contacted him and asked him to collect information about the Syrian Democratic Forces, but Ahmed Al-Shaloukh refused, according to his claims.

Al-Shaloukh said: “Abu Ali met me and threatened me by saying, ‘We have people here. If you do not cooperate with us, we will kill you and your family.’”

Al-Shaloukh then communicated with Political Security through Abu Ali twice a week in the city of Al-Mayadeen, and after the recent events in Deir ez-Zor, he was asked to participate with the masked men in their movements, confirming the entry of intrusive groups into their areas: “I participated with them, but I did not know any of them, and where are they from."

Al-Shaloukh revealed that Political Security stressed to them the necessity of disrupting security and stability in the Deir ez-Zor and Al-Jazera regions in order to exploit it and pave the way for the return of the control of the Damascus government forces.
