AANES welcomes US Treasury sanctions on mercenary leaders

"We welcome the recent decision made by the US Department of the Treasury to sanction some “mercenary factions for committing war crimes in Afrin,” said Badran Chiya Kurd, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)."

"In addition to these criminals, there are hundreds of leaders of those factions involved in terrorist acts and war crimes such as killing, looting, captivity, kidnapping, and human and drug trafficking.

"This tragic situation requires sending an international commission of inquiry urgently to the occupied areas, especially Afrin, and therefore it is fair to bring all those involved and criminals to international criminal courts, as their practices amount to war crimes against humanity."

Chiya Kurd added, achieving justice for civilians and consolidating security and stability in those areas cannot take place without ending the occupation in all its forms, expelling all those extremist terrorist groups, and working to create conditions for the safe return of all forcibly displaced persons to their homes."

"The international community bears full responsibility for what is happening in the occupied territories, and it must protect and implement the laws in preserving human rights and dignity," Chiya Kurd said.
