TEV-DEM calls for international recognition of Şengal genocide

TEV-DEM issued a statement on the anniversary of the Şengal massacre committed by ISIS mercenaries against the Yazidis in Şengal on August 3, 2014.

The text of the statement read:

"At the beginning, we remember all the martyrs of the Şengal massacre on its ninth anniversary.

" Nine years ago, the Yazidi community in Şengal was subjected to a new decision to eliminate the Yazidis through an attack by the terrorist ISIS, which woven the threads of its filthy conspiratorial policy within a planned plot and with the direct support of some regional and international powers, led by the fascist Turkish occupation state, and the shameful complicity of the leadership of the Kurdistan Democratic Party which was in control of Şengal at that period to settle ISIS terrorists in Şengal and turn it into a center for dark and evil forces throughout the region and to end the cultural and historical legacy of the will of the Yazidi community in Şengal and deny their authentic existence.

The Yazidi community has a history full of resistance and struggle and is full of patriotic attitudes and human values to protect the cultural heritage and the core societal values inherent to this real and historical archaeological heritage. Today it is exposed to the policy of annihilation. The October 9 agreement is to complete the process of ethnic cleansing against the Yazidi community and to obliterate the essence of the renewed spirit of rebirth, through which modern historical resistance to building a social democratic system was achieved among all communities in Şengal and the Nineveh Plain. This spirit derived its strength from the sacrifices made by the Kurdistan Freedom Movement in moral defense to protect this historical heritage and save the lives of hundreds of thousands of Yazidis from annihilation and inevitable death.

It was the beginning of a new modern revolution to restore the spirit and rebirth of the Yazidi community and build its organization through the formation of its democratic institutions and the formation of resistance units that defeated terrorism and liberated Şengal from the clutches of ISIS terrorism.

We in TEV-DEM appeal to the international community, headed by the Security Council, the United Nations and organizations interested in protecting ethnic and religious minorities to carry out their human and moral duties to protect the will of peoples from the threats of genocide, massacres, ethnic cleansing policies and demographic change processes in many of our regions, and impose no-fly zone on NE Syria, Şengal, Makhmur and southern Kurdistan.

We also hold the United Nations responsible for this genocide and crimes against humanity, which fails to officially recognize this massacre and hold its perpetrators accountable, that is why the Turkish occupation state expand its occupation of our regions and commit more heinous massacres against the peoples of the region.”
