Shiekho: Afrin became den of narcotics, diseases

Ibrahim Sheikho explained that the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries have turned Afrin into a den of drugs and the spread of diseases and epidemics, revealing a change in the course of the Meydanki Dam's water.

The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries are increasing their crimes against the remaining indigenous people in the occupied Afrin canton, including killing, kidnapping, rape, seizing property, imposing royalties and cutting trees. In addition, the canton and all of the occupied areas prevail in a state of security chaos, chaos and fighting between mercenary groups on an almost daily basis, not to mention the manufacture and promotion of narcotics.

Regarding the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries in Afrin canton, the human rights activist and member of the Afrin-Syria Human Rights Organization, Ibrahim Sheikho, spoke to ANHA's agency.

Royalties on crops and for accommodation in their homes

Ibrahim Sheikho touched on the crimes of seizing the property of the people and imposing royalties on them, and said: "The Turkish occupation, since its occupation of Afrin, continues with the participation of its mercenaries from the Syrian National Army, which works on the orders of the Turkish intelligence, in committing violations. To tighten the screws on the remaining ones by imposing large royalties on them that exceed their ability.”

Sheikho drew attention to the fact that the Turkmen mercenaries of "Sultan Suleiman Shah", known as "Al-Amshat", imposed a royalty of $40,000 on 72 citizens from the village of Khakra in Mobata district, under the pretext that they had not informed them of harvesting the sumac crop.

Sheikho explained that the people pay royalties in US dollars for staying in their homes, pointing out that more than 10 citizens from the village of Hasya / Merkan in Mobata district paid sums ranging between $500 and $1,000 for staying in their homes. He said, "The occupation mercenaries imposed on two families from the village of Hekja also an amount of 1,500 dollars each, after which they were also expelled."

Ibrahim Sheikho referred to the state of fighting between the mercenary groups that prevail in the canton, amid the spread of drug abuse, promotion and trade, and said: "Most of those who do this are from the so-called Syrian National Army or the authorities of the Turkish occupation (..) and thus they turned Afrin into a den for drug abuse Which is the reason for committing crimes against children, as we witnessed the rape of 3 children.”

300 cases of cancer

Sheikho explained that the Turkish occupation increases the suffering of cancer patients, confirming, quoting from local sources, that 200-300 people, including 65% of children and women, have been diagnosed with cancer without providing them with treatment.

He pointed to the spread of diseases and epidemics in Afrin and the occupied areas with the spread of garbage and dirt in the streets, as a result of the so-called local councils not providing any services, and working only to legitimize the crimes of the occupation.

Cut off the water from Afrin

During his speech, Sheikho noted the cutting off of drinking water in the Midanki Dam to Afrin, and the change of the water route to other occupied areas and Turkey, instead of Afrin and its environs.

According to the sources, drinking water is bought in Afrin by tankers.

On the other hand, Sheikho touched on the crime of attempting to kill a survivor of the Janders massacre, which claimed the lives of 4 people from one family, the young man, "Nazmi Ashraf Othman (19 years old)", as the mercenaries of "Ahrar al-Sharqiya" of the Turkish occupation army tried to kill him, and chanted slogans revenge on the family whose members lit the Newroz flame on the eve of March 21, 2023.

Sheikho denounced the silence of the international forces and human rights organizations, regarding what the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries, "Ahrar al-Sharqiya" are doing, the remnants of ISIS mercenaries against the members of this family, and against all the people of Afrin.
