KDP abducts journalist criticized Masrour Barzani

The Adult Reform Directorate in Hewler issued a prison sentence for journalist Sherwan Sherwani for an additional 4 years on Thursday. Journalist Omid Proshki criticized the President Masrour Barzani, and said: "The president follows a police mentality in punishing Sherwan Sherwani."

Yesterday, Sherwani was sentenced to an additional four years in prison by the Adult Reform Directorate in Hewler on charges of forging documents.

The lawyer of the Behdinan prisoners, Ramadan Herzizi, made a press statement after the sentencing of Sherwani, and said: “The Hewler Court sentenced Shervan Sherwani to 4 years in prison according to Articles 295 and 298 on charges of forgery, which indicates the lack of the rule of law and the lack of independence of the courts in the Kurdistan Region.”

After the verdict was issued against Sherwani, Omid Broshki, a friend of Sherwan Sherwani, spoke about the court's decision and said: "The court did not judge Sherwan Sherwani for 4 years, and this decision is the decision of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani."

He continued, "States cannot be managed with military and intelligence thinking. This decision was taken against the voices calling for freedom and opposition to the authority in Behdinan, and we must take a stand against this decision."

Hours after Proshki criticized the authority of the KDP, he was kidnapped by forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK).

The representative of Bahdinan prisoners, Ayhan Saeed, reported that journalist Omid Broshki was kidnapped last night by the security forces in Dohuk.

"We hold the security forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party responsible for Broshki's life because he was arrested without a judicial order," Ayhan Saeed said in a message he posted on his website.
