Egyptian Jurist reveals a move to support the cause of leader Abdullah Ocalan at UN

Egyptian jurist and advisor, Dr. Alaa Salama, revealed that the issue of leader Abdullah Ocalan was discussed during the recent meeting of the International Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He explained to ANHA's agency, "He submitted the file to a civil society organization specialized in the field of human rights, which in turn presented the file to the Head of the Human Rights Council and explained the serious violations that Ocalan has been subjected to for years, solitary confinement and the prevention of visits, whether to his family, his lawyer, or the relevant international organizations, as well as what He is subjected to ill-treatment and obscuring his health and psychological condition.”

The leader, Abdullah Ocalan, has been detained in Imrali Prison for about 25 years, amid strict isolation, and threats through letters of death and assassination.

He stressed that "the file is currently under research and study to take the necessary legal measures, indicating that he will communicate periodically with the concerned organizations to find out the latest developments."

He continued, "The Head of the Human Rights Council is the one who received the file himself and heard the issue, but he does not express any opinion, whether with regard to this file or any other file, except after researching, studying, and addressing the concerned authorities to ensure the validity and accuracy of the data and information contained in it."

He pointed out that "the file was not presented officially to the members of the Council, but it was handed over to the Head of the Council personally by the organization, and it will be studied and the organization will be contacted regarding its findings."

According to the Egyptian human rights activist, "the issue of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan is a humanitarian and important issue," stressing that "any person has the right to have his rights even if he is restricted in freedom, especially since international laws guarantee all these rights, especially since Mr. Ocalan has a case, and a prisoner because of his thought and opinion, which makes him deserve all the support of all those working in the field of human rights.”

Between Ocalan and Mandela

Regarding the secret of global silence regarding what Ocalan has been subjected to for a quarter of a century in Turkish prisons, Salama considered that "the case did not take the necessary media form for most countries of the world to pay attention to it, compared to, for example, the Nelson Mandela case, where we were surprised that many international organizations do not know any details on this subject.

The head of the Justice Center believes that the best solution to the Ocalan case is "the need to internationalize the case globally and the international and media pressure by civil society organizations and international organizations in order for him to obtain his full rights and allow visits to his lawyers and relatives, and then to consider reconsidering his case fairly again," stressing "the need for human rights centers and associations to exert pressure on the Turkish authorities to treat the Kurdish leader in accordance with international law."

Counselor Alaa Salama concluded his speech to ANHA's agency by sending a strong message to the supporters and fans of Abdullah Ocalan, calling for the continuation of the movement and international pressure to inform the world of the issue, stressing that no right is lost behind which there is a claimant.
