Global Forum about massacres in Mesopotamia kicks off in NE Syria

The forum was organized on the initiative of Kongra Star and in coordination with the women's councils of both the Democratic Union Party and the Future Syria Party, with the participation of more than 60 representatives and political figures, in the meeting hall of the Syrian Democratic Council in the city of Hasaka NE Syria.

The forum was attended by the President of the Executive Body of the Syrian Democratic Council, Elham Ahmed, the spokeswoman for the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), Roxanne Muhammad, the co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Berivan Khaled, and the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, Asia Abdullah, in addition to the participation of a number Academics, researchers, and feminist activists from several countries, including Lebanon, South Africa, Jordan, and Egypt, through the Zoom application.

The forum will shed light on the massacres and exterminations that took place in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first quarter of the twentieth century (the last stage of the Ottoman Empire), in addition to focusing on the role played by women in rebuilding relations and coexistence within a democratic framework. .

The activities of the forum began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs. Then, the member of the Kongra Star coordinator, Shiraz Hamo, delivered a speech in which she welcomed the attendees, and touched on the objectives of the forum by saying: "It is necessary to shed light on historical facts from the natural society to the slave society, and treaties which was concluded against the people, especially against the Kurdish people, in addition to the results of Treaty of Lausanne.

Hamo added that women formed the main pillar of the Autonomous Administration project and the joining of all components. "The revolution has become the focus of the world's attention by possessing the elements and gains to become a revolution of transformation and change for the Middle East and the entire world."

According to the committee responsible for the work of the forum, the forum consists of 4 focal points, which are:

* The first axis: historical facts of genocide, received by the academic and professor at the University of Baghdad, and an advisory member in a number of research centers and scientific and cultural institutions, and an activist in the fields of the environment and the rights of women and children, Farah Saber.

* The second axis will be about foreign interventions after 1850 in the geography of the Middle East, received by the editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram newspaper and professor of journalism at Misr University for Science and Technology, Sahar Abdel Rahman.

* The third axis on the extermination regime in Mesopotamia, received by the researcher in the ancient civilizations of the East and the Syriac language and the vice-president of the Syriac Union Party, Laila Lati.

* The fourth axis on the role of women in reviving good neighborliness by the President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council, Elham Ahmed.

It is expected that the forum will conclude with a number of recommendations.
