​​​​​​​Mechanism for bringing humanitarian aid into Syria ends

The UN Security Council is facing problems in extending the validity of the mechanism for delivering UN aid to Syria from Turkey through the Gilogozo border gate towards Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is controlled by Turkey's mercenaries, which ended on Monday.

The joint draft resolution between Switzerland and Brazil provides for an extension of the mechanism for 12 months, while Russia, in the draft resolution it submitted on July 7, calls for an extension of the mechanism for 6 months.

The Security Council initially authorized the delivery of aid in 2014 to the Syrian regions of Iraq, Jordan and Turkey, but Russia and China have reduced this to only one point on the border with Turkey.

It used the humanitarian file as a means of political blackmail, as the Tal Koçer crossing was closed in 2020 by a decision of the Security Council with a Russian and Chinese veto under the pretext of not bringing aid to areas outside the government's control, but they allowed the entry of this aid through the Bab al-Hawa crossing in Idlib, which is under the occupation of Turkey and its mercenaries of Jabhat al-Nusra.
