​​​​​​​12 people killed; 173 people, including women, kidnapped

With the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries launching their occupation attack on the occupied Afrin canton on January 20, 2018, the largest continuous demographic change operations began to date against the people of the canton and its nature.

The Turkish occupation, through its Syrian and other mercenaries, and its intelligence apparatus, is practicing the most heinous physical and psychological crimes of rape, murder, kidnapping, appropriation of property, and exerting psychological pressure on the indigenous people of the canton.

In this report, we review the outcome of the crimes committed by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries during the first 6 months of 2023, based on information provided by the Human Rights Organization Afrin-Syria to ANHA’s agency.

murder and kidnapping

The crimes of murder and kidnapping are frequent at the hands of the occupation mercenaries and its intelligence services in the occupied Afrin canton, where:

* They were killed within 6 months, and according to the Human Rights Organization Afrin-Syria, 12 people, including two women, and 4 members of one family were killed on the eve of Newroz (March 20) while lighting the Newroz flame in front of their house in Janders district.

* During the first 6 months of 2023, they kidnapped 173 people, including 20 women, under false pretexts, with a financial ransom stipulated for their families in order to release them.

cut down trees

According to the human rights organization, the Turkish occupation deliberately cut down trees in order to cut them down and create areas in those lands in preparation for building settlements on them.

The occupation mercenaries cut down 15,500 fruit trees (olives, walnuts, almonds, fruits) and forest trees, and uprooted more than 1,000 trees, and burned more than 70 hectares of agricultural land that was planted between barley and wheat.

6 settlements

The human rights organization Afrin-Syria confirmed the construction, preparation or opening of 6 settlements during the past 6 months, and the details are:

1. "Ajnadayn Palestine" settlement:

On January 4, 2023, the Turkish occupation opened the settlement of Ajnadayn Palestine in Janders district, after it was funded by the Palestinian "Soldiers of Islam" organization, and 40 apartments were handed over to the mercenary families of "Ahrar al-Sham.”

The land on which the settlement was built, located between the villages of Hamilka and Rifaatiya, east of Janders, is owned by Hassan Majeed and the sons of Murad Manan, who are from the village of Shitka in Mobata district, who were forcibly displaced to al-Shahba canton.

2. The Qatari “Al-Karama” settlement:

On February 12, Qatar Charity announced the start of the "City of Dignity" settlement project in Janders district, under the pretext of reconstructing the areas affected by the February 6 earthquake. After completing its construction, it will house mercenary families in it.

3. "Qatari Village 2":

On May 4, the so-called Afrin Local Council and the General Authority for Relief and Development (ANSER) opened the "Qatari Village 2" settlement, in the village of Shadira, in the Sherawa district of occupied Afrin.

4. The mercenaries of "Sultan Suleiman Shah" built a settlement in Mobata district, about which no more information was known.

5. The White Hands Association built another settlement in the village of Shadira in the Sherawa district.

6. In the past few days, the occupation and its mercenaries began building a settlement on the slopes of Mount Lilon.

For its part, sources from inside the occupied Afrin canton reported that the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation committed two crimes of rape in less than a week against two girls, aged (10 and 14 years).

This is not to mention that the occupied Afrin canton has been witnessing, since its occupation, a state of security chaos, and looting and theft are rampant in it, in addition to the manufacture, sale and smuggling of drugs.
