With the end of the World War, and after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, Kemal Ataturk launched what is known as the National Liberation War, which the Kurds joined after false promises from Ataturk to grant them autonomy in Bakur Kurdistan (Northern Kurdistan).

Despite the efforts of the Kurds in the War of Independence, newly emerged Turkey denied any rights and existence for the Kurds, and considered them Turks living in the mountains, and tended to obliterate their identity by forcing them to abandon their Kurdish language and speak Turkish instead, where it changed the geometry of their regions and replaced them with the names of Turkey.

The essence of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, which erupted 100 years ago, is due to the latter's non-recognition of Kurdish rights and identity. The provisions of the 1920 Sevres Agreement granted the Kurds the right to self-determination in their areas, until the 1923 Lausanne Agreement came and wiped the Kurds off the map.

Preparations to massive revolution

Khaled Bey Gibranli founded the Kurdistan Freedom Association (AZADÎ), 1920, and coordinated with the leaders of the Kurdistan Revival Association to send notes to the League of Nations (United Nations) about granting independence to Kurdistan. The association united the Kurdish diaspora in Northern Kurdistan, in preparation for organizing an uprising against the decisions of Kemal Ataturk.

On the other hand, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk formed the (Turkish Higher National Assembly), which included some Kurds, such as Hassan Khairi, who sent a memorandum on behalf of the Kurds to the Lausanne Conference held on July 23, 1923. Khairi claimed that the Kurds did not wish to separate from the Turks, and accordingly the conferees decided to cancel the idea of Kurdistan independence from Turkey.

On October 29, 1923, the establishment of the Turkish Republic was announced, and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was appointed as its president. This declaration angered the Kurds, as the continuation of the Turkification policy, the Kurds, along with the people of the region began to resolve differences and conflicts in preparation for a massive revolution that would restore their rights.

The leaders of the Kurdistan Assembly decided to revitalize their movement and prepare to organize a revolution in Kurdistan, that is why Kurdish leaders gathered in northern, western and southern Kurdistan.

Execution of the association's leaders and founders

The Turkish authorities revealed the secret movements of the Kurds, arrested the leaders of the association and executed its founders. The association decided in a meeting to choose Sheikh Saeed Biran as president of the association, and he had links with Kurdish associations, organizations and clans. Sheikh Saeed Biran was born in Balu district in Northern Kurdistan in 1865.

In order to gain the support of the Kurds for the revolution, Sheikh Saeed toured the regions of Kurdistan, and called for union and agreement. Despite the national differences, Sheikh Saeed contributed to concluding strategic agreements with (the Assyrians, Armenians and Circassians) and they joined hands in fighting the Turkish occupation, which pursued a policy of genocide and melting other cultures and confining them to the Turkish crucible.

The battle and liberating several areas

Sheikh Saeed fought several battles against the Turkish state, killing a number of soldiers of the occupation army and capturing others.

Furthermore, his Kurdish fighters attacked the occupation's concentration points and declared the liberation of a city in Amed, where it was chosen as the temporary capital of Kurdistan.

The revolution began to spread in 14 Kurdish cities. Many Kurdish clans joined it. Sheikh Saeed decided to go towards Amed to liberate it. This decision was met by the occupation issuing martial laws and provisions to abort the revolution, and he sent huge reinforcements to the areas of Kurdish revolutionaries.

The Kurdish revolutionaries, who were estimated to number tens of thousands, liberated large areas between the governorates of Mosh, Elazigh, Bitlis and Amed.

The revolutionaries imposed a suffocating siege on the city of Amed, but they were unable to enter the city because the occupation forces fortified themselves in it.

The occupation forces sent heavy military convoys, after which the borders were closed to the Kurdistan supporters of the revolution in other parts of Kurdistan, and the occupation forces were able to lift the siege on Amed, and a wide military operation began that resulted in ending the revolution.

How arrested the leader of the revolution, Sheikh Saeed?

In mid-April 1925, the leader of the revolution, Sheikh Saeed Biran, and a number of members of the leadership committee fell into an ambush on the Jar Bahar bridge in Varto, in the state of Mosh, on the bank of the Euphrates River at night, following the betrayal of the convoy guide "Qasso", and Khaled Bek Jabri's cousin, who  was heading to Sulaymaniyah to meet Sheikh Mahmud al-Hafid and Simko Agha Şakaki in order to coordinate and request supplies.

After the arrest of Sheikh Saeed and 46 of the leaders of the revolution, their trial began in late May and lasted for a whole month, after which the court decided to execute the leaders of the revolution by hanging to death.

Our grandchildren will not be ashamed before the enemies

The leader of the revolution, Sheikh Saeed and his companions were executed in Amed on June 29, 1925, and before the gallows, Sheikh Saeed proudly said: “If I die, every Kurdish will be Saeed, and they will save Kurdistan. I have reached the end of normal life, I do not regret that I am now sacrificing my life for the sake of my country and for the sake of my people, it is enough for us that our grandchildren will not be ashamed before the enemies."

After the execution of Sheikh Saeed arrest and execution the resistance collapsed on all fronts. Immediately, the Turkish state proceeded with the execution, exile, and imprisonment of thousands of leaders, and  revolutionary patriots.

During the process of suppressing the revolution, the occupation executed thousands of the Kurdish people, and destroyed hundreds of villages, and according to some reports attributed to the Turkish crimes in that era, the occupation killed more than 15 thousand Kurds, and destroyed 200 villages, and its authorities took measures that would weaken the presence Kurds in their areas and displace the indigenous population to large cities and replace them with Turks.

Bullet of August 15, the beginning of the largest operations of the Kurds

After the Turkish occupation state eliminated the revolution of Sheikh Saeed, several revolutions and uprisings emerged, such as the Dersim uprising, but the pattern of the Kurdish issue emerged more clearly with the PKK firing the first bullet on August 15, 1984, and it was the beginning of one of the largest Kurdish revolutions in Kurdistan.

The PKK revolution became famous throughout Kurdistan, and it turned into a source of inspiration for all democrats in Kurdistan and the world, so the capitalist powers tried to eliminate the movement by supporting Turkey with equipment, weapons, and intelligence work, and conspiracies were continuously concluded in order to eliminate the leader of the revolution Abdullah Ocalan.

In a joint regional and international intelligence operation, leader Abdullah Ocalan was arrested on February 15, 1999, the same day Sheikh Saeed launched the spark of the 1925 revolution.

The trial of the leader Abdullah Ocalan began on May 31, 1999, and on June 29 the Turkish court issued a ruling that included a death sentence against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, in a scene similar to what happened with Sheikh Saeed Biran.

The Turkish occupation state wanted to remind the Kurds of historical events, and it said: "We have eliminated Sheikh Saeed's revolution by executing its leaders, and we can eliminate the revolution of the PKK by executing the leader Abdullah Ocalan."

Following the decision a massive demonstrations took place throughout Kurdistan and the world, forcing the occupation authorities to reverse their decision to commute the death sentence to life imprisonment in October 2002.

Since the arrest of leader Abdullah Ocalan, the successive Turkish authorities have imposed strict isolation in violation of Turkish and international laws, and no information has been received about his condition for more than 27 months. Where the Turkish authorities prohibit his family and his lawyer from meeting him under flimsy pretexts, and they imposed "disciplinary penalties" against him, which are renewed every 3 months.

The terrible Imrali, with a bad reputation and close to destroying the physical and psychological structure of a person, is impossible to live in. It has turned into a strictly guarded prohibited military zone. A new system has been established to follow malicious policies to break the will of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, who described the conditions there as putting a person alive inside a coffin.

The leader Abdullah Ocalan speaks in his plea (from the state of priests towards democratic civilization), that: “Executing the Kurdish, exterminating him, and denying its existence means closing the most important doors in its face, bearing in mind that the requirements of the era no longer accept that the Kurds accept for themselves the decision of death. The decision to execute the sheikh Saeed and his comrades led the republic to tyranny and to the denial of the Kurdish presence and the policy of assimilation in Kurdish-Turkish relations, as it completely crushed the relations of the two peoples who fought national liberation together.

Leader Abdullah Ocalan noted: "In court, I mentioned the year 1925 again, and emphasized that the right way is to draw lessons from history. This time, the death decision issued against the Kurdish rebellion, it will turn into an honorable peace and brotherhood with content that hangs over the republic."

Relations must be restored to the path of historical brotherhood

Leader Abdullah Ocalan stressed: "Everyone's goal must be that the relations between the Kurdish-Turkish duo enter peace into the path of historical brotherhood and search for that in unity and honorable peace."

Leader explained: "When Europe ratified the establishment of the Turkish Republic in Lausanne, Ismet Inonu discusses the Kurdish issue and evaluates the situation in the form of "We are the Turks and the Kurds together (...)", which indicates that the Kurds also have at least cultural demands. It cannot be denied, and thus the Republic returns from a historical error.

Leader Ocalan asserts: "The Kurds have served the Turks mostly and throughout history, and the price for that cannot be the denial of existence and the deprivation of all its contemporary rights, and adopting decision of death over their heads like the sword of Damocles is not possible at all, rather it must commitment to greatness and prove brotherhood by fulfilling its requirements.
