Şengal clans: Families of victims must attend ISIS trial sessions

On the 10th of June, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria decided to start bringing the foreign ISIS mercenaries to open, fair and transparent trials, in accordance with international and domestic laws on terrorism, and in a manner that preserves the rights of the plaintiffs, victims and their family members.

In this regard, notables of the clans of the Yazidi community and representatives of the Autonomous Administration of Şengal, Iraq, and international forces called for the support of this decision and the establishment of courts in Iraq as well to prosecute those responsible for the genocide against the Yazidis.

At least 6417 Yazidis were killed, kidnapped and sold in the markets during the attack of ISIS mercenaries on Şengal, the fate of 2693 of them is still unknown, according to the statistics of international organizations.

Khalaf Tala, one of the notables of the Yazidi clans in Şengal, confirmed that "the members of the Yazidi community suffered a lot of mercenary crimes during their attacks on Şengal in the summer of 2014," calling on international forces to hold ISIS mercenaries accountable for their crimes and the need for families of genocide victims to attend ISIS trial sessions.

In turn, Faqir Barakat, one of the notables of the Yazidi clans in Şengal, said: "9 years have passed since the genocide that took place on the Yazidi community, without all the mass graves in Şengal being opened."

He added that the step of prosecuting the mercenaries in northeastern Syria by the Autonomous Administration is very important.

Barakat concluded his speech by saying: "The mercenaries must receive their just punishment in the courts."

ISIS mercenaries committed crimes not only in Syria, but also in Iraq, where they committed many crimes, including the genocide in Şengal on August 3, 2014, which was recognized by the parliaments of European countries as "genocide".
