Al-Asr Office calls for end to situation of not receiving information from Imrali

After criticizing the isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, on a television program, the Turkish authorities opened an investigation against the general director of the Turkish "TELE1" channel, Mardan Yanardag, who said: "There is no place for isolation on Ocalan in the law, it must be ended, and he cannot meet with his family and lawyer, Is there an enforcement system like this?/.

In turn, the Human Rights Office of Al-Asr, commented on the matter, and stated:

"Basically, the investigation should be opened against this system of isolation, and those who implement this system," pointing out that under illegal pretexts, leader Abdullah Ocalan is being prevented from meeting his family and lawyer, which is his right.

The text of the statement issued by the Human Rights Office on Monday reads:

"The denial of basic rights and freedoms there in Imrali, is a form of torture, 27 months ago, and despite all attempts, no information was received from Mr. Ocalan and the other clients. We cannot receive information about their health and conditions in prison, this is the most difficult stage in Imrali, and it is clear that these practices are wrong and not right".

Once again, it must be known that attacks on the personal rights of our clients are not different from these policies, and it has been declared by millions of people that Mr. Ocalan represents freedom and democracy. During the years 2006-2007, more than 3 million people in Turkey submitted a petition including their signatures to the National Assembly in Turkey to demand the freedom of Mr. Ocalan. In 2013 more than 10 million people submitted their signatures to the Council of Europe.

Contrary to Imrali's situation, we submitted a request to the United Nations Human Rights Committee in 2022, and as a result of this request, the committee responded to our request on September 6, 2022, and announced the government's precautionary decision. The UN Human Rights Committee again reminded the government on January 19 of the precautionary decision that "he should be able to meet with his lawyer immediately without any hindrance". Although the government is responsible for complying with this international resolution, we see that it is still not in compliance with this resolution. By not implementing this decision and continuing the isolation, it will have committed the crime of deliberate violations and the crime of torture.

Our call to the government and the Ministry of Justice is; Act immediately in accordance with the procedures of the United Nations Human Rights Committee and end the situation of not being able to receive information and the practices of torture".
