"Astana" kicks off and Damascus adhers to condition of Turkey's withdrawal

Today, in the Kazakh capital, the work of the Astana talks kicks off, with the participation of the deputy foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, the Damascus government and the Turkish occupation, in addition to figures from the so-called opposition.

The meeting will last for 2 days, and representatives of the United Nations and the neighboring countries of Syria, namely Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan, are expected to participate in its work as observers. It is planned to discuss a Russian road map that focuses on completing the path of normalizing relations between Damascus and Ankara.

In this context, the head of the Damascus government delegation participating in the talks, Ayman Sossan, said that Turkey's withdrawal from Syria is the only point for any "normal relations" between the 2 countries.

The Damascus government-affiliated Al-Ekhbariya TV quoted Ayman Sossan as saying today, that "combating terrorism is not selective," stressing that ensuring border security is a joint Syrian-Turkish responsibility.

Despite the Damascus government's adherence to the condition of the Turkish occupation's withdrawal from Syrian territory, saying that securing borders is a joint responsibility with the Turkish occupation indicates that Damascus is ready to conclude deals with Turkey under Russian auspices, and this may be under the title of activating the Adana Agreement, and by this deal, Ankara seeks to perpetuate its occupation of many Syrian regions.

Over the past years, despite the talk of Russia and Damascus about the unity and integrity of the Syrian territories, Turkey occupied many Syrian regions through the Astana meetings.
