Positive reactions on AANES's decision to try  ISIS mercenaries

On June 10, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced the start of submitting foreign ISIS mercenaries detained by it to open, fair and transparent trials, in accordance with international and domestic laws on "terrorism", and in a way that preserves the rights of plaintiffs among the victims and their families.

Al-Hol camp, which houses thousands of mercenaries and their families constitutes a threat to the whole world, and is considered a bomb that may explode at any time.

Wadha al-Ahmad, from al-Hol district, one of the women who suffered during the ISIS occupation of the region, said: "The presence of ISIS mercenaries in the region poses a great danger to its people, and threatens its security and stability."

She added, "We see daily, ISIS mercenary cells spreading their leaflets on the walls of houses in the district, threatening to strike the security of the region and committing crimes against the components."

Citizen Bassam Muhammad also stated that the presence of ISIS mercenaries poses a threat to the whole world, and not only to the North and East Syria: "ISIS mercenaries committed a series of continuous crimes against the residents of the region, with the direct support of the Turkish occupation state."

Danger of Mercenary

Regarding the security situation in the camp, the administrator of al-Hol camp, Jihan Hanan, explained that the security situation has improved significantly after the "Humanity and Security" campaign launched by the Internal Security Forces, and she said: "The camp is witnessing some kind of relative calm."

On August 25, 2022, the Internal Security Forces launched the second phase of the "Humanity and Security" campaign, until September 17, 2022, during which they arrested 226 mercenaries, including 36 ISIS women, who participated in killings, where they found 25 trenches and tunnels, and an amount of weapons, According to the Internal Security Forces.

During the past 12 months, the camp witnessed 36 murders, including two women, who were killed after the "Humanity and Security" campaign. They lived in the "immigrants" section, and they are of Egyptian nationality.

According to accurate statistics of the camp administration, 49,820 people live in Al-Hol camp, including 24,846 people of Iraqi nationality, 7,523 of foreign nationality, and 17,451 of Syrians, including 15,129 women and 33,000 children of ISIS mercenaries.

While the detention centers of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Anti-Terrorism Units are holding 19,000 ISIS mercenaries, according to the statistics of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

In order not to respond to the calls and appeals of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria by the countries to receive their citizens from ISIS mercenaries, the Autonomous Administration decided, through a statement on the 10th of this month to start submitting the foreign ISIS mercenaries detained by it to open, fair and transparent trials.

The head of the Council of Notables of Hasaka canton, Akram Mahshush, supported the decision of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria to form a court of ISIS mercenaries, and said, "The decision came at the right time, after the suffering of the Autonomous Administration by repeatedly asking for countries that have their nationals from ISIS mercenaries in region".

Mahshush noted that the formation of an international tribunal would be a failure, and the court of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria would take into account the international laws related to "terrorism" and the families of the martyrs, regretting that the concerned countries did not respond to the appeals of the Autonomous Administration.

Akram Mahshush noted that after the announcement of the Autonomous Administration to prosecute ISIS, the frequency of attacks by the Turkish occupation state on the region increased, by targeting the people of the region using drones, calling on international organizations and the Security Council to stand by the Syrian Democratic Forces and the clans in the region to prosecute ISIS mercenaries.
