Makhmour camp residents reject attempts to surround  camp

Since yesterday, the Iraqi army has been trying to surround the Makhmour camp, "the martyr Rustam Judy", with barbed wire and towers.

The Iraqi army's attempts were rejected by the camp's residents, and the Iraqi army's efforts to surround the camp with wire failed.

This morning, the Iraqi army has deployed dozens of military vehicles loaded with ammunition and barbed wire to surround Makhmour camp.

12,000 people live in the Makhmour camp, "Martyr Rustam Judy," in Nineveh Governorate, northern Iraq. It was officially recognized by the United Nations as a refugee camp in 2011.

On December 27, 2021, the Iraqi army tried to put barbed wire around the camp, and the people of the camp showed resistance, as a result of which the army was forced to withdraw.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party has besieged the camp since the summer of 2019, and no refugee is allowed to enter Hewler.

As a result of the siege, many citizens were killed in addition to the loss of more than 5 citizens of their lives due to the Kurdistan Democratic Party preventing the people from entering Hewler to receive treatment.
