​​​​​​​AANES: Syria's return to its ASL should not hinder political solution

AANES issued a statement to the public opinion, in which it evaluated the recent Arab movement regarding the political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The statement indicated that "Resolution (No. 8914) issued by the Foreign Ministers of the Arab States League on May 7, to restore Syria's seat in the ASL to the Syrian government, is welcomed by us in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, especially since this decision is based on the prior approval of the Syrian government to abide by the outcomes of the Amman meeting that took place on the first of May.

In its statement, the Autonomous Administration welcomed the return of Syria to its Arab surroundings, saying, "It is of the utmost importance to the Syrian interest in the return of Syria to its Arab surroundings and strategic depth, provided that it does not constitute an obstacle to the political solution of the Syrian crisis, which has entered its thirteenth year. Rather, it could be an important step in advancing the political process in Syria and stimulating a political solution to the crisis, and we hope that the Arab League will play an effective role in this regard.

The statement reads that the Autonomous Administration in north and east Syria called, during the political initiative that they launched on April 18, 2023, that the Arab countries and the United Nations should play a positive role in the Syrian solution and bring the views of the Syrian parties closer, and there are common issues between the Syrian file and the Arab countries and even between the AANES and the Arab countries can work on it jointly within the framework of reaching a comprehensive political solution.

The statement added, "Based on the national constants of the necessity of preserving the unity of Syria and building a decentralized democratic system, which we mentioned earlier within the political initiative to solve the Syrian crisis, we welcome the decision to return Syria to the Arab League and consider it a positive step.

And affirmed that it "can play an important role in the political solution because of its political, economic, security and humanitarian capabilities," and called on the Arab countries to "communicate with all Syrians and not with one party at the expense of the other, given that the Syrian political solution needs Syrian consensus in crystallizing the solution with serious and effective steps, and we have shown our flexibility in this regard through the political initiative.

The Autonomous Administration expressed its willingness to contribute of working together, in coordination with the Arab countries and the United Nations, on basic issues that require joint efforts with regard to combating terrorism, drugs and the file of Syrian refugees in neighboring countries, according to the statement.

The statement concluded, "We all hope that the tragedies that the Syrian people have experienced over the past years will end, and we will put all our capabilities in order to establish security and reach a political solution that does not contradict international resolutions on Syria, and guarantees a decent life for the people of Syria of all their components and sects."
