The White House announced that President Joe Biden has decided to extend sanctions against Syria for another year.

The White House said in a statement, "The actions of the Syrian regime pose a threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States; For this reason, the state of emergency and the measures must be in effect after May 11, 2023."

"Therefore, I am extending the declared state of emergency for a year in light of the Syrian government's actions," Biden was quoted as saying.

The White House added, "The United States calls on the Syrian authorities and their supporters to stop the brutal war against its people, to cease fire in all parts of the country, to ensure the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need, and to discuss a political settlement in Syria."
