For 1st time… American envoy to NE, Syria visits Tabqa Dam

The US Special Envoy to North and East Syria, Nicholas Grainger, visited Tabqa Dam, to learn about the reality of the dam, its technical condition, and the results of the Turkish occupation's blocking of the water of the Euphrates River.

The Supreme Envoy of the United States Government in North and East Syria, Mr. Nicholas Grainger, accompanied by a diplomatic delegation, visited Tabqa Dam, Monday, May 8, and met with the Department of Energy Office in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Grainger was briefed on the reality of the current dam and its technical condition, while the Energy Office gave a full explanation of the condition of the dam, the turbines, their mechanism of action, and the disastrous results of the continuous decline in the water level of the Euphrates River to less than 500 m3 per second, according to the agreement signed in 1987 between Syria and Turkey and registered with the United Nations in 1994.

This visit is the first of its kind by a US envoy to North and East Syria to the vital facilities built on the Euphrates Dam since the withdrawal of the international coalition forces from the Euphrates region in 2019.
