First comment from Damascus on the decision to return to Arab League

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said, "Syria has followed the positive trends and interactions currently taking place in the Arab region, which it believes are in the interest of all Arab countries and in the interest of achieving stability, security and prosperity for its people."

It added, "In this context, Syria received with interest the decision issued by the meeting of the Council of the League of Arab States in its extraordinary session at the level of foreign ministers held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League on May 7, 2023 regarding the resumption of the participation of delegations of the government of the Syrian Arab Republic in the meetings of the Council of the League and all organizations and agencies." affiliated as of today, and stresses in the same context the importance of dialogue and joint action to face the challenges facing Arab countries.

And the Foreign Ministry continued, "As Syria, a founding member of the League of Arab States, renews its continuous position on the need to strengthen joint Arab work and cooperation, it affirms that the next stage requires an effective and constructive Arab approach on the bilateral and collective levels, based on the basis of dialogue, mutual respect, and the common interests of the Arab nation."

And the foreign ministers of the League of Arab States, after their meeting in Cairo, Sunday, issued Resolution No. 8,914, in which they announced the return of Syria to occupy its permanent seat in the organization after years of exclusion.
