Brothers of Imrali detainees apply for access

Muhammad Ocalan, brother of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and lawyer Mazloum Deng, today submitted a request to the Office of the Republican Public Prosecutor in the Turkish city of Bursa in order to meet with their families.

The brothers of the other detainees, Ali Kunar, brother of Umar Khairi Kunar, Polat Yildirim, brother of Hamili Yildirim, and Meliha Cetin, sister of Veysi Aktaş, asked for a meeting with them.

The leader's last contact with the outside world was on March 25, 2021, during only 5-minute phone call with his brother Muhammad Ocalan.

While the last meeting with him took place by his lawyer, Rizan Sarija and Nowruz Uysal, on August 7, 2019, and since that date, the Turkish authorities have imposed strict isolation on the leader Ocalan, who has been detained since 1999.

The leader was arrested as a result of an international conspiracy, the first of which began on the 9th of October 1998 when he left Syria heading to Moscow, to be arrested on the 15th of February 1999 in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and handed over to the Turkish authorities.
