YPG recalls journalists who martyred in Qarachokh

The Media Center of the People's Protection Units issued a statement in conjunction with the sixth anniversary of the attack launched by the Turkish occupation state on Mount Qarachokh, on April 25, 2017.

The statement reads:

"On April 25, 2017, 20 of our commanders and fighters in the People's and Women's Protection Units were martyred as a result of an aerial bombardment by the Turkish occupatio state on Mount Qarachokh in the city of Derik. The Media Center of the People's Protection Units and Radio Rojava were also targeted in this attack. By this way, they wanted  blocking the free voice of our people we recalls our comrades who were martyred in this attack on the sixth anniversary of their martyrdom, and we bow in honor of their memory.

Targeting the voice of truth

In its attack on Mount Qarachokh, the Turkish state deliberately targeted the media to prevent the voice of the revolution and the reality of the war against the occupation.  Radio Rojava, which showed the reality of war to our people by its broadcasting in North, South and West Kurdistan.  Radio Rojava played an important role in discovering the voice of the revolution. 

Also, the media center of the People's Protection Units in particular followed the war, moment by moment on the front lines, and showed the whole world the resistance of the People's Protection Units and the Women's Protection Units.

Our Friend Haqi grew up in a patriotic family in the city of Tirbespiye and joined the ranks of the struggle in the early years of the revolution.  After participating in many media events.  He had an important role in preparing the military magazine (Parasten).  In addition, through Radio Rojava, he contributed to showing the daily war developments to public opinion.

Comrade Rewan is also from a patriotic family in the city of Tirbespiye.  Join our ranks at a sensitive stage of the revolution.  Comrade Rewan, who was working in the Information Department of the People's Protection Units Media Center, was following the developments of the war and showed the heroism of his comrades to public opinion.

Our comrade Sheelan joined the struggle,  Through her enthusiastic spirit, she always gives morales to her comrades.  During her struggle and activity in the media, she contributed through her lens to showing the heroism of women who identified themselves with war and revolution and became free, to all women of the world.

This attack made our people to become angry, and involve more in the struggle.  In place of each and every one of our martyred comrades, thousands of young people joined the ranks of the revolution.  And as comrade Firas Dagh did, the Kurdish young men and women from outside the country went to Rojava.  They effectively joined the media centers of the People's Protection Units and the Women's Protection Units.

Today, too, our struggle continues with great determination, thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs.  On the sixth anniversary of their martyrdom, we remember the martyrs of Qarachokh and all the martyrs of the revolution with honor and respect, and we renew our pledge to follow their path and build a free future.  In the name of the People's Protection Units Media Center, we will continue to show the truth of the war to our people and the entire world, whatever the circumstances."
