Despite the Russian push towards achieving progress in the path of rapprochement between the Damascus government and the Turkish occupation, this path is somewhat ambiguous, as the meeting between the foreign ministers of the two parties was postponed for several times after being determined in advance.

Despite the controversy, interests push the regimes of Damascus and Ankara to agree

The Syrian dissident and head of the Revolutionary Left Movement in Syria, Ghiath Naissa, spoke to ANHA’s agency about this by saying: "I do not think that there is much ambiguity in the path of rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus. On the contrary, I see that this path between the Syrian and Turkish regimes has become entrenched, and has taken place over the years." It is likely that a meeting at the level of the presidency of the two regimes will take place after the Turkish elections, if Erdogan succeeds in them, to crown the agreements of the two regimes at the highest level.

He added, "The two regimes have a great interest in normalizing their relations. As for Turkey, it is more likely that it is serious about that. This relieves it of the burden of refugees, removes from it the mercenary groups, opens an important market for the distressed Turkish economy, and gives Turkey a large share in reconstruction and an important influence in Syria." The upcoming, and more importantly, Turkey has a nightmare that it has not yet got rid of, which is the Kurdish people and their rights, and it is a central internal issue for it. Its agreement with the regime in Damascus may unite their efforts to try to foil the project of AANES, which constitutes a liberating model that terrifies both regimes.

Ankara will not give up its ambitions

One of the points most focused on during the talk about the path of normalization between Damascus and the Turkish occupation is the issue of the Turkish presence in the Syrian territories, which has established hundreds of military points and bases during the past years, in addition to its occupation of large Syrian regions, so is Turkey ready to give up its ambitions?

Ghiath Naissa answers this by saying: "The rapprochement between the two regimes in Ankara and Damascus does not mean the Erdogan regime's abandonment of its ambitions in Syria. Rather, it means giving a (legal character) to these ambitions with the consent of the ruling regime in Damascus itself. It is a deal between the two regimes. Concessions here and gains there, and in any case they will be at the expense of the Syrian people, their sovereignty over their land and their decision.”

Egyptian-Turkish discussions… Arab-Turkish coordination or competition in Syria

Naissa pointed out, "The Turkish-Egyptian rapprochement is certainly related to the path of normalization with the Syrian regime, but it also has regional motives. And settling the dispute between them in terms of oil investment at sea and in Libya, the regional countries in our region are working in light of the weakening of the global system, despite settlement of its disputes, waiting for the features of the new world order that will result from the Ukrainian war to become clearer.

Naissa noted that: "It is certain that there is a kind of competition between the Arab and Turkish tracks towards Syria, and so far it seems that Turkey and the Emirates have a greater share in the Syrian regime, but the facts are always changing and sometimes they are rapidly changing."

In addition to the external factors, there is an impact of these convergence on the Syrian interior, where the Damascus government believes that these changes are a translation of the political and military victory it has achieved, which will often encourage it not to pay attention to the internal entitlements and dialogue with the Syrian national forces, led by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and it will adhere to the same arrogant mentality exclusion and not recognizing the existence of any partners in the homeland.

The co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, Badran Jia Kurd, described these meetings during a previous interview as: "a waste of time and a losing bet on the time factor to gain more influence and power," and stressed that: "such suspicious meetings cannot bring about a political solution that guarantees the rights of all Syrians." Rather, it will further complicate the existing reality, and it will be a cause and root for the crisis in light of the destructive and negative role that Turkey has played towards Syria for a decade.

Our country has become a hotbed of occupying armies

Naissa talked about this by saying: “The junta regime in Damascus presents itself as if it has won, but the reality is not quite like that. It has weakened to a great extent, the economy has collapsed, the people have become impoverished and displaced, and the country has been torn apart, and our country has become a hotbed of occupying armies, if this is called a victory. It is worse than the worst defeats."

He added, "There is no escape for the regime from understanding and negotiating with the Autonomous Administration and what it represents of a broad national expression for the democrats and for the rightful demands of the Syrians for justice, equality and dignity. Otherwise, the regime with its intransigence will lead our country to be the scene of a long and bloody civil war, devastating for what is left of Syria and the Syrians." Nothing will remain, and it will remain the same.”

Naissa emphasized, "There is nothing left for the Syrian people as a source of inspiration for a better future other than the Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA, which means the necessity of rallying around it and with it in the Syrians' struggle for peace, establishing a decentralized democratic system, achieving independence, national sovereignty and social justice. This is our national project for the entire Syrian people."
