Damascus govt completely prevents entry of fuel, medicine into al-Shahba

For more than 5 years, the Damascus government has continued to impose a siege on the al-Shahba area, as it prevents the entry of fuel, basic materials, and medicines into the area inhabited by more than 200,000 citizens, most of whom are displaced from Afrin.

The deputy co-presidency of the Afrin and al-Shahba canton council, Jamal Rashid, explained in a statement to ANHA agency that with the renewal of political agreements and plans between the government of Damascus, Russia, the Turkish occupation state and Iran, the siege intensifies and the pressure on the people increases.

He indicated that the suffocating siege imposed on al-Shahba canton by the Damascus government, more than 5 years ago, is not new, but it has been tightened more recently, as the entry of fuel and medicines was completely prevented.

Rashid warned of the consequences of tightening the siege on the residents of al-Shahba in the coming days, especially in the field of service work, bakeries, water and medical points.

He stressed that the situation is the same in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo, as a result of following the same policies in the two regions.

Rashid, noted: "This blockade is the result of a purely political decision, after the recent political developments related to the region, which aim to weaken the Autonomous Administration in NE Syria, turn the people against it and create discord."

Jamal Rashid stressed the need to put an end to this blockade and the practices used against the people of the region.

The Municipal Authority in Afrin and al-Shahba cantons was recently forced to reduce the working hours of the artesian wells that supply al-Shahba with drinking water, from 10 hours to 8 hours per day. Previously, the work hours of electricity generators were rationed from 4 hours to only two hours per day.
