Kirby: Washington does not intend to reduce its military presence in Syria

The Coordinator of Strategic Communications at the National Security Council at the White House, John Kirby, confirmed that his country does not intend to reduce its military presence in Syria and will continue to implement the mission of eliminating ISIS.

Kirby confirmed during an interview with CBS that his country is committed with the Global Coalition Forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces to the elimination of ISIS, pointing out that there are less than a thousand American soldiers in Syria carrying out this task.

At the same time, the US official made it clear that the United States certainly does not rule out the possibility of carrying out an attack on pro-Iranian groups in the event that President Joe Biden deems it necessary to protect US forces and bases.

The United States said earlier that it would protect its forces in Syria after the US military launched air strikes on sites of armed groups loyal to Iran, in response to the bombing by a drone that targeted a base of US forces in north and east Syria.
