Flame of Newroz ignited by Mazlum Dogan and Zakia Alkan.. burning with will of peoples yearning for freedom - Hevidar Khalid

 Newroz is considered a historic day for the Kurdish people. For hundreds of years, it has been celebrating this occasion, which represents a day of challenge and resistance in the face of injustice and tyranny, and the beginning of declaring the struggle in the face of darkness for a new life and freedom in March, which was and still is a witness to the most heinous crime.  Massacres against the Kurdish people in the four parts of Kurdistan.

 Newroz day acquired its true meaning for the Kurds in the early eighties of the last century, after one of the leaders of the PKK, Mazloum Dogan, nicknamed Kawa Hadad, lit the fire of Newroz with his body against the oppression machine in Amed prison in northern Kurdistan, repeating the historical slogan "Resistance is life" more than  Once, he added a new meaning to Newroz, and the operation of the revolutionary Kurdish fighter came in response to the injustice and torture practiced in Amed prison, after he lit the fire of Newroz with three matches, so that the 21st of March would be celebrated from that time, as a symbol of the resistance of the Kurdish people in all places, and a national symbol  for resistance, redemption, and steadfastness against Turkish fascism.

 The duality of struggle and resistance has accompanied the Kurdish people since ancient times, and perhaps living without this unique duality is impossible for this people, especially today, when the great sectarian conflicts that we are witnessing today, which turned Kurdistan into a field and a main theater for its implementation, unless  that all of this will not discourage the Kurdish people from their struggle in the face of the ideology of oppression and the policies of the nation-state, which brought nothing but destruction and devastation to the region with its racist tools, and in particular the Kurdish women who waged a bitter struggle in order for the banner of freedom to remain high in Newroz every year, like Zakia  Alkan, Rahshan Demirel, Ronahi, Berivan, Sama Yoga and dozens of female comrades who made their bodies and souls an eternal flame;  In order not to extinguish the fire of Newroz.

The Kurds suffered a lot in order to continue celebrating this historic day, which for them is considered a national symbol in the four parts of Kurdistan, but thanks to the great and historical resistance shown by its best sons, they were able to celebrate it despite the repressive policies of authoritarian regimes throughout the region. They preserved  with their spirit of struggle and resistance in all places of their presence, adhering to their militant identity, which has become a symbol of lighting the Newroz flame;  to continue.

 Newroz is a Kurdish word that means the new day, which is the day of the resisting people, resurrection, the creation of a new life, the good tidings of the arrival of spring and an uprising against tyrants, not surrendering to oppression and slavery, but rather the heroic struggle against it and rejecting it in all its aspects. This is what the struggling Kurdish woman must do today with all  what strength and determination it had, and the escalation of its struggle more than ever before, by making the spirit of Newroz this year;  A starting point for its desired goal, which is the freedom of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and strengthening its role under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom", towards the women's revolution.

Women have a high ability to play the role assigned to them, by uniting the ranks of women from all components, and the women who took to the squares and stood in solidarity together during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” revolution, proved to the world that there is no force on earth that can stop the great struggle of women, and with this  solidarity;  Light the Newroz flame.

 "People who carry the torch of Newroz, people of peace and freedom who do not waver their banners of oppression and slavery" is a phrase that caught my attention, written on banners hanging in Kurdish cities in northern and eastern Syria, which are preparing to celebrate Newroz.  Yes, indeed, the peoples who joined together in the face of terrorism in the regions of northern and eastern Syria are worthy of carrying the torch of Newroz this year together, with the vanguard and leadership of women.  Freedom today in all fields and squares, not only in Kurdistan, but in all places whose peoples believe in their free will to achieve their just causes with the solidarity of all its components together.

On Newroz this year, thousands will celebrate in our region under the slogan "With the spirit of Newroz resistance, we will liberate the leader Ocalan and defeat the occupation." Of course, this Newroz will have a special character, a special spirit, and clear messages.  It calls for a unified struggle together in the face of all attacks that target the will of the people and try to obliterate their identity. By achieving the freedom of leader Ocalan, the freedom of all oppressed peoples who struggle today to gain their freedom, restore their rights and live in dignity will be achieved.
