PYD confirms that any solution in Syria that excludes a component will remain incomplete

On this occasion, the General Council of the Democratic Union Party issued a statement to the public opinion.

In its statement, the Council said: "On this day, we remember the martyrs of the uprising of March 12, 2004 and all the martyrs of freedom and dignity, and we affirm that the only way to end the tyrannical authoritarian situation in Syria is to escalate the Syrian national struggle and join forces among the national forces and unify the Syrian decision away from any external or authoritarian agendas or nationalism.

The text of the statement reads:

"The 19th anniversary of the Qamishlo uprising on March 12, 2004 is approaching us at a time when the world and the region are witnessing important developments, and Syria is going through exceptional situations. On the one hand, the Syrian regime is still clinging to its chauvinistic mentality based on exclusion, denial, and the consolidation of the policy of discrimination between the components of the Syrian people, which expresses by its formative nature, it is different from the failed centralized nation-state model characterized by dictatorship, which was confirmed by the March 12 uprising to this day. On the other hand, Syria's geography is still a hotbed for colonizers and occupiers due to the authoritarian regime's policies and international inaction.

The uprising of March 12, 2004 was not just a case of disobedience or a state of rioting among football fans, as the regime and those in its orbit tried to market it to the Syrian mind.

The March 12 uprising was a response to a cumulative state of injustice and denial, and it came in response to the practices of the Syrian regime in terms of discrimination, persecution, exploitation, tyranny, and attempts to assimilate in the manner of the Turkish fascist regime, which was the usurpation of Syrian lands after the Adana Agreement of October 20, 1998, which was an agreement that conspired against the entire Syrian people, and at the forefront of them Kurdish people.

Eight years after the uprising of March 12, 2004, the Syrian people crossed the barrier of fear, and millions of Syrians and all over the Syrian cities took to the squares, demanding change and democratic transformation. To bring Syria to what it is now: “killing, destruction, terrorism, displacement…”.

Here we can only say that the destiny of the Kurdish people and the destiny of the revolting peoples in the face of the domination of the nationalist tyrannical regimes and under capitalist domination is to resist and be the vanguard in sacrifices and pay the price for change towards achieving democracy. The Kurds and our party, the Democratic Union Party. Hundreds or even thousands of party members have been subjected to harassment, arrests, and liquidation, such as the martyr Shilan and her companions, the martyr “Ahmed Hussein, Osman Dudli” and others, in addition to dozens of missing persons, such as “Nazliya Kajal” and others who were martyred as a result of torture and inhumane practices. To the Baathist regime, which devoted all departments of the state to persecuting the Kurds and any Syrian person who sympathizes with the Kurdish cause, to the extent that power in Syria became subject to the policies of Turkish fascism, which took advantage of the Syrian regime's thirst for power.

We in the Democratic Union Party (PYD), and on this day, we remember the martyrs of the uprising of March 12, 2004 and all the martyrs of freedom and dignity, and we affirm that the only way to end the authoritarian state in Syria is to escalate the Syrian national struggle, solidarity among the national forces, and the unification of the Syrian decision, away from any external or authoritarian agendas. Or nationalism, and the Syrian regime must realize that the power of popular change is greater than any tyrannical authority, so it must abandon the mentality of exclusion and denial.

And we renew our assertion that any solution in Syria that excludes a component or denies its rights will remain an incomplete equation and impossible to solve, and will even exacerbate the conflict more than it is now."
