SOHR: 48 murder cases in Damascus-held areas since beginning of year

The areas under the control of the Damascus government are witnessing a continuing escalation in the rate of crimes in light of the failure of the security services affiliated with the Damascus government to put an end to the security chaos.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, since the beginning of this year 2023, the areas under the control of the Damascus government have witnessed 48 intentional killings: 13 women, 31 men, and 6 children, while As-Suwayda and Rif Dimashq took the largest share of these crimes.

This statistic, which covered only three months of this year, covers about a third of the total number of murders committed in the past year within the areas controlled by the Damascus government, which amounted to 159 murders, killing 174 people, in a dangerous indication of the growth of this phenomenon in those areas and the extent of the failure of the security services to end it.

Despite the attempts of the Damascus government to portray the areas under its control as safe and suitable for living after the "elimination of terrorism," as it described it; However, facts and figures prove the exact opposite.

Observers believe that the government provides an appropriate climate for corruption and crime, through the royalties imposed by the security checkpoints on the roads, the public request for bribes from government departments, the corruption of officials and their empowerment in their positions, all of which are considered official legislation for crime, while the government continues to evade its responsibilities without taking what is necessary to solve the problems of citizens.
