The General Command of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) issued a written statement on the occasion of International Women's Day, which falls on the 8th of March. In his text:

"We, in the People's Protection Units, in the tenth year of our founding, receive the International Day of Toiling Women on March 8. We have always emphasized that we will be the force defending women's rights and freedom. We renew our pledge once again on the occasion of March 8. We will fulfill our responsibility in performing our contemporary tasks as defenders of Women and the builders of a free life We will also guarantee all the values that were built with the blood of the martyrs First we remember all the women who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom and the freedom of women in particular We affirm that we will follow in their footsteps.

The current system cannot protect the people.

The earthquake that struck Bakur Kurdistan, Syria and Turkey caused great tragedies and suffering. Mothers, women and children suffered the most. March 8 this year was greeted with great tragedies. He left behind thousands of victims, wounded and orphans. It has been shown once again that the policies of the regimes that focus only on their own interests have caused all this suffering. They turned the holy days of people and women into days of darkness, pain and heartbreak. This means that the regimes can never protect the people. And if people do not build their defensive organization in all respects, they will always remain under the ruins of these systems. Especially since we live in a century that requires the intervention of women more than ever before, because it is a century witnessing great wars and massive destruction. And all this is done by the state system and male domination. And it is the woman who represents the power to intervene in this.

Our struggle is an expression of our promise

Today, women have reached a high level where they can, with this power, assume their responsibilities and tasks and successfully perform their role and duty. In particular, the global women's revolution revealed this truth with one voice and one stance under the slogan "Jin Jiyan Azadî Women, Life, Freedom". The constant movement that it witnessed created a great belief that women can be the force of intervention. That is why March 8 will be the day to raise the voice that says: "To build a new life, to create public peace, to protect people's dignity." We will ensure that, especially we women. We in the Women's Protection Units will experience the pain of the victims on the 8th of March, and our attitudes towards them will be represented in defending social justice, democratic politics and the cause of freedom. We will be responsible for the values of society. Our struggle in the Women's Protection Units will be active according to these principles under the slogan "Jin Jiyan Azadî Women, Life, Freedom" and our struggle will be an expression of our promise.
