Condemnations of Turkey's use of water as a weapon against Syrian - raqi people

This came through two separate statements by civil society organizations in al-Tabqa, and the General Council of the Future Syria Party in al-Raqqa, made in front of the Euphrates Dam in al-Tabqa, and next to the new al-Raqqa bridge, against the background of the Turkish occupation's continued blocking of the water of the Euphrates River from the Syrian lands.

The first statement was read by the co-chair of civil society organizations in Tabqa, Khadija Daoud, with the participation of members of the unions and chambers of civil society organizations.

At the outset, the statement touched on the goals of the occupying state in North and East Syria, "from the gateway to pressure on the Autonomous Administration and thwarting the project of the democratic nation, the Turkish government has committed the most heinous types of crimes against our people, from occupation, destruction, killing and forced displacement, to be added to it the blocking of the Euphrates River water and the blocking of the Syrian allotment of water of the Euphrates River.

Adding, "With this blocking, our people are deprived of their share stipulated in international agreements on sharing river water, amounting to 500 cubic meters per second, which today no longer reaches half of this number despite the cracking of dams in Turkey as a result of the devastating earthquake."

The statement noted that continued of blocking water it might have negative impact on the reality of agriculture and livestock in Iraq and Syria, and the humanitarian catastrophe it would lead to and starvation of the two peoples.

While the statement of the General Council of the Future Syria Party, which was read in Raqqa by a member of the Public Relations Office of the party, Issa al-Khabour, stressed that "all international conventions, according to their standards and legal adaptation, consider the Euphrates an international river, and the Syrian people have the right and fairness in sharing water, and this reflects the false allegations of the Turkish regime.

The statement pointed out that "the Turkish regime is indifferent to any international criteria, and blocking the water of the Euphrates River is a politically motivated crime through which the Turkish regime is trying to undermine human development, starve the peoples of the region and subject them to its occupation approach, and blocking international water with huge dams is only a deadly weapon." It is organized state terrorism to oppress people and plunge them into chaos, hunger and poverty.

The statement of civil society organizations in Tabqa, and the statement of the General Council of the Future Syria Party in Raqqa, denounced the Turkish policy towards the Syrian and Iraqi peoples, and called on the UN Security Council, human rights organizations and regional countries concerned with the Syrian issue; Intervention to implement international agreements on water sharing and fairness for the Syrian and Iraqi peoples.
