13 schools in Kobani damaged due to the earthquake

School hours have been suspended in NE Syria since the first day of the earthquake that struck northern Kurdistan and Turkey, affecting regions in Syria, including the regions of NE Syria. However, School hours in all regions resumed since last Sunday, with the exception of schools in the regions of the Euphrates region, Shahba, and the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods.

The co-chair of the Education Body in the Euphrates region, Bakr Jarada, said: "As a result of the earthquake that struck areas in northern Kurdistan, Turkey and Syria, many buildings in the region were affected, including our schools, so we formed a committee of engineers to conduct field tours to all schools and assess its status.

He added, "13 schools were affected by the earthquake, but according to the engineers' assessment that it will not constitute a danger and a threat in the future, but to ensure the safety and security of students, we suspended school hours for a week, waiting for things to calm down."

He pointed out that " School hours are currently suspended until the engineers finish preparing a general assessment for the status of the 571 schools."

Jarada explained, "According to the assessment of the engineers, the Martyr Hogir School and the Martyr Saydo School are the most affected schools, but according to the engineers' assessment, the situation of the schools is not that dangerous."
