Health Authority warns of running out of medicines in al-Shahba canton

For more than 5 months, the Damascus government has been imposing a suffocating siege on al-Shahba canton and preventing the entry of medicines, fuel and foodstuffs into it, which has cast a negative shadow on all aspects and sectors in the canton.

In this context, the co-chair of the Health Authority for Afrin and al-Shahba cantons, Alia Muhammad, warned; From the deterioration of the situation and the occurrence of a humanitarian catastrophe, in light of the influx of families from Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods to al-Shahba canton, stressing that no aid had reached the region.

Alia indicated that they, in the health sector, have mobilized all their capabilities to help the people in the canton, and to secure the necessary medicines and treatment for them in light of the suffocating siege imposed by the Damascus government.

She stressed in her speech that all the medical points and Avrin Hospital, and since the tightening of the siege by the government, have not closed their doors to the people, and they provide what they can provide to the people.

Warning of running out of medicines

She warned that medicines would soon run out - especially after more than 2,500 families flocked to al-Shahba district from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods affected by the earthquake - and thus a real humanitarian catastrophe would occur.

The co-chair of the Health Authority of Afrin and al-Shahba cantons, Alia Muhammad, pointed out that they called on international organizations several times to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe against thousands in al-Shahba, but these organizations did not respond and did not provide any assistance to the region.

At the end of her speech, Alia confirmed that the Autonomous Administration and the Kurdish Red Crescent are trying to provide assistance, but all roads are closed to them.

It is noteworthy that the medical points and Avrin Hospital are the main hospital in al-Shahba canton; It lacks most types of medicines, including chronic disease medications, medical supplies and sterilizers, as well as stopping operations and the care room, according to the Health Authority.
