Fuel, flour in Shahba about to run  over govt blockade, new arrivals

More than 1,200 families have come from the affected areas arrived in Shahba canton, so that the IDPs people would receive them in the camps and provide them with the available assistance and supplies.

The Afrin and Shahba canton council, in coordination with the administrations of the five camps in the canton, worked to provide the necessary supplies for the arrivals, whose numbers are likely to keep increasing in the coming days.

The bakery committee in Afrin and Shahba cantons increased its production of bread, at the rate of 1,000 packs of bread per day, bringing the total number to 55,000 packs of bread, after it used to produce 54,000 ones in order to meet the needs of the displaced and arrivals.

According to the committee, the flour available to them is only sufficient for several days, in light of the fact that no truck of flour has passed to the district, because of the government blockade.

The amount of diesel needed to operate bakeries, which amounts to more than 15 barrels per day, is about to run out, and as a result, two bakeries out of 7 stopped working, so that only 5 ones are relied upon in the Canton.

The committee confirmed that if diesel and flour are not available during the current week, the region will head towards a humanitarian catastrophe, especially with the increase in the population, after the earthquake-affected people from the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods flocked to the district.

It is worth noting that the Damascus government has imposed since the past five years,  a suffocating siege on Shahba district, Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafiya neighborhoods, and tightened it for more than 5 months.
