TEV-DEM: Afrin's resistance continues until safe return home

On Wednesday, the Democratic Society Movement issued a written statement in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of occupation of Afrin Canton.

The text of the statement reads:

"Five years ago, the fascist Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries attacked Afrin and its indigenous people, taking advantage of the complete absence of the moral and legal role of the international community towards the Turkish crimes and violations against the people of Afrin, where Afrin became a victim of conspiratorial policies between fascist and dictatorial regimes.

They have turned Afrin into a hotbed of terrorism and a center for gathering mercenary factions, including factions that are internationally classified on the terrorist list.

In January 2018, the Turkish occupation army launched the fiercest terrorist attack on Afrin region, using the latest air and land weapons, with the participation of many mercenary factions, with the aim of destroying the infrastructure of the region, destabilizing security and stability, weakening the resistance of the people of Afrin, and denying its historical values through multiple barbaric political and military methods to achieve its dreams and expansionist ambitions, in addition to settlement of terrorism through the processes of demographic change and the construction of settlements, along with cutting down of trees, destruction of antiquities, besides the daily kidnappings and killings, and the looting of property.

Afrin and all its components will remain the owner of the largest modern resistance that amazed the free people around the world.

This resistance is still continuing with its principles and values until a safe return of the people of Afrin to their homes.

The siege imposed by the Damascus government is considered a war crime, as well as the daily bombardment of the Turkish occupation that target the IDPs from Afrin in Shahba, these actions indicate the bankruptcy of their dirty chauvinistic and fascist policies towards the will and resistance of the people of Afrin in Shahba, who cling to the values of their modern resistance until the liberation of Afrin from occupation and terrorism.

We in the Democratic Society Movement TEV-DEM appeal to all institutions and organizations of civil society and all international organizations concerned with human rights and global public opinion, led by the United Nations, to take bold and courageous stances and humanitarian and moral intervention, in an urgent manner, in order to end and break the siege imposed by the authority of Damascus on children and the elderly and all the displaced people of Afrin in the Shahba Canton, who are facing the catastrophe of death, without shelter and without humanitarian requirements.

We also call on all political and national forces in the region to provide support and assistance to our families, people, and children through moral political stances, pressure on this government that imposes the siege, and work to end the Turkish occupation in Afrin and all occupied areas.
