​​​​​​​431 egregious violations against journalists in Başûr during 2022  

The "Metro" Center for Defending the Rights of Journalists in Başûr Kurdistan organized a press conference, Monday, in the city of Sulaymaniyah, which was attended by dozens of media outlets in addition to political and party figures.

The coordinator of the center, Rahman Gharib, said during the press conference that "after 32 years of joint rule of the two main Kurdish forces in Başûr Kurdistan, journalists are subjected to assault and violation while performing their duties and covering events."

And he indicated that, according to the annual report, "431 violations were recorded against 301 journalists and media institutions last year, including 26 cases of beating and insulting journalists and media professionals, 4 cases of insult, 46 cases of assault and threat, two cases of missile attack, three cases of storming of journalists' homes, and 6 cases of assault." electronically, 16 cases of taking compulsory undertakings, and 64 cases of arresting journalists without a judicial order.

He added that "195 cases of obstruction and prevention of journalistic work were also recorded, 68 cases of confiscation and breaking of press equipment, and one case of closing a TV channel's office."

Gharib pointed out that "most of the violations committed by the security services in 2022 have not changed, and the security services' behavior towards media teams has not changed when covering events."
