The "Fourth Division" affiliated with the Damascus government continues to clamp down on the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods and the Shahba district by imposing a siege on them. This portends a humanitarian catastrophe, as the fuel and flour stores are about to run out.

To discuss the causes and justifications for the siege imposed by the "Fourth Division", ANHA’s agency conducted a meeting with the co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (Aleppo Center) Jihan Muhammad.

A systematic and deliberate blockade

Regarding the siege imposed on al-Shahba canton, the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, and Ashrafieh, which includes hundreds of thousands of displaced people from Afrin canton, she said, "Their suffering is doubled with the siege, and she described it as a systematic and deliberate siege by the government of Damascus."

As for the goal of the siege, Jihan saw that the coincidence of the Turkish attacks on NE, Syria with the imposed siege was not a mere coincidence, but rather; as result of the convergence of Ankara and Damascus.

And she said in this regard: "At the beginning of the demands of the President of the Turkish occupation state, Erdogan, to bring about a rapprochement between Ankara and Damascus, we do not deny the positive position of the Damascus government; by rejecting this demand, except that this position was not decisive and the existing political scene confirmed to us what was hidden under the table." What is meant here is intelligence coordination between the two parties.

Jihan also confirmed that "the pressure exerted on the displaced Syrians from the occupied Afrin canton and those residing in the al-Shahba canton and the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, to displace them again and dispel their hopes for the liberation of their areas."

And she added, "All these policies are used to strike the Autonomous Administration project, which has proven effective on the ground, to be a model for a comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis, which is something that does not fall within the category of those who want the crisis to continue and benefit from it."

Jihan also said, "The Syrian government must be fully aware that Erdogan's government has dirty intentions and wants from this rapprochement to expand its occupation of Syrian lands, to revive the Ottoman Empire."

At the end of her speech, Jihan confirmed that "the first step to end the crisis is to conduct a Syrian-Syrian dialogue, and to end all kinds of siege imposed by the government against these areas."
